ViDAÂ Published: EU Greenlights Member States to Mandate E-Invoicing Without Prior Approval
On 25 March 2025, the long-anticipated VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA)Â package was officially published in the Official Journal of the European Union, bringing significant changes to the EU VAT landscape.Â
The package amends three key legislative instruments:Â
The EU VAT DirectiveÂ
The VAT Implementing Regulation related to special VAT schemesÂ
These changes will enter into force on 14 April 2025, with various measures rolling out progressively through 2035.Â
In just 20 days, the first wave of reforms will begin—most notably:Â
EU Member States will now be able to implement domestic e-invoicing mandates without seeking prior approval from the European Commission.Â
This marks a major shift in the digital transformation of VAT compliance across the EU.Â
